6th International Conference on “India in an Era of Global Uncertainties: Issues, Opportunities and Challenges” at GJIMT on 7th April, 2012.
Gian Jyoti Institute of Management & Technology (GJ-IMT), Mohali in association with Chandigarh Management Association (CMA) organized its 6th International conference on “India in an Era of Global Uncertainties: Issues, Opportunities & Challenges”.
While Mr. J.S Bedi, Chairman Gian Jyoti Group of Institutions, welcomed the Chief Guest Dr. Manoj Sharma (Professor UBS, Chandigarh), Dr. Anshu Kataria, President Chandigarh Management Association, Ms. Madhulika Kak, General Secretary, Chandigarh Management Association and eminent dignitaries present at the conference. He said that the One day International conference has elicited good response from a cross section of eminent speakers from the Academia and Industry. More than 113 full length papers were contributed in the conference, from countries such as Canada, Hungary, Sri Lanka and Pakistan and more than 63 papers were presented in four technical sessions.
Dr. Manoj Sharma emphasized on the conference theme and highlighted the current issues of Globalization in context with developing nations like India. Dr. Anshu Kataria, President Chandigarh Management Association released the souvenir at the conference along with the dignitaries present.
Dr. Avninder Gill, Associate Professor, Thompson Rivers University, BC, Canada presided over the valedictory function. He said that the research and perspective given by the speakers is immensely valuable to meet the challenges India faces in this era of global uncertainties. Besides, he shared the importance of Logistics & Supply Chain Management and Operations Management in the globalised world.
Dr. Vimal Aggarwal, Conference Chair and Director of the Institute, gave the vote of thanks to the delegates present. He said that the presence of such eminent personalities from India and abroad has enhanced the stature of this conference, and has given a new and diverse perspective to the audience on the Role of India in the 21st century.
8th National Conference on “Business Competitiveness – Role of Information Systems” held at Gian Jyoti on 21st Jan, 2012.
Gian Jyoti Institute of Management and Technology, Mohali organized 8th National Conference on “Business Competiveness-Role of Information Systems” at its campus. Mr. J.S Bedi, Chairman Gian Jyoti Institute of Management and Technology was Chief Guest on this occasion.
In his key note address at the conference, Mr. Bedi said this conference is being organized with a view to bring academicians and practitioners on a single platform to share their experiences and insights on the role of information systems in business competitiveness. Information systems can help improve efficiency of all functional areas of business- sales, accounts, marketing, human resource management, operations & production management - there by making a business more competitive.
The Technical Session-1 was chaired by Dr.Vimal K. Aggarwal and Dr. Sanjeev Sofat. The Concurrent session Session-II was chaired by Dr. Vijay Kumar Jadon and Dr. R.P Gupta. Total 80 papers were presented by eminent scholars from academia and experienced persona from industry.
Sh. J.S. Bedi, Chairman, GJIMT termed the success of the Conference as the first step in institutionalizing the immense knowledge and research experiences of experts and research scholars. The dignitaries also formally released the booklet of abstracts of this national conference.

5th International Conference on “Emerging Economies - Challenges & Opportunities”
The International Conference on “Emerging Economies - Challenges & Opportunities” began at Gian Jyoti Institute of Manangement & Technology at its Phase 2, Mohali campus on 18th March, 2011 and concluded on 19th March, 2011. Mr. P.J.Singh, M.D. Tynor Orthotics Pvt. Ltd was the Chief Guest for the inaugural session and presented the key note address.
Mr. P.J.Singh while delivering his key note address, emphasized that inclusivity is of utmost importance to attain the desirable double digit growth for India. As per his thoughts, the need of the day is innovative practices in educational, agricultural and health related aspects along with other fields of developments. He also highlighted that after the economic crisis, the world’s centre of economic gravity is slowly shifting towards emerging markets. Countries that were earlier associated with cheap brands are now becoming leaders in innovation. The number of companies from emerging economies like China, India, Brazil and South Korea are now posing challenges to the world’s multinational giants.
Mr. J.S. Bedi, Chairman Gian Jyoti Group of Institutes in his inaugural address, shared the importance of science, technology and innovations in creation of wealth, economic growth and improvement in quality of lives for all citizens. He mentioned that innovation is a structural change and is an imperative for the growth and well being of society.
Mr. Robert Peterson ,Prof, Dubai University spoke on International Economies . He highlighted the necessity of globalization and coordination amongst developed and developing economies cutting across geographic boundaries. While Prof. Mehraan, Iran University said on this occasion that emerging econmies have made great strides in innovation, their future growth will depent on how they can use the forces of globalization, innovation and technology to build their brands.
Technical Sessions were chaired by the eminent personalities like Dr. P.K. Vasudeva, Dr. Meenakshi Malhotra, Dr. Sanjeev Sofat, Dr. A.K.Vashisht and Dr. S.K. Chadha. They all appreciated GJIMT for the quality of research papers presented by speakers around India and across country.

6th National Conference on "Emerging Trends in Online Business: Challenges & Opportunities"
Gian Jyoti Institute of Management and Technology, Mohali organized 6th National Conference on “Emerging Trends in Online Business: Challenges & Opportunities” on 13th November 2010 at its campus. Mr J.S Bedi, Chairman Gian Jyoti Group of Institutions while addressing the delegates and students, said that in the era of globalization, e-marketing has become a persuasive tool to promote business at micro and macro level and it is the need of the hour that e-marketing should be used more in the rural areas more to promote small and big business.
He further added that today the definition of market is changing from place to space and the world has become a global village. Even in our country, the business through e-marketing is in infant stage as only 15 to20 per cent of business is done through e-marketing. Thus, a platform is being created for the concerned associates from academia and industry by GJIMT to delve & deliberate on this theme.
Mr. Ajay Pal Singh Technical Architect, Care Fusion was key note speaker for the session. Mr. Ajay Pal Singh said that even online business and online ads at present are at infantry stage but it is developing very rapidly. Tomorrow it will be a great source of income for common people and also will bring a greater amount of employment as it will cover each sector of business in India & World.
Total 52 papers were presented by eminent scholars from academia and experienced persona from industry all across India. The Technical Session-1 was chaired by Dr. P.K. Vasudeva and Dr.Suresh Chadha whereas the Technical Session-II was chaired by Dr. G.S.Bedi and Prof.Dinesh Kumar.

4th International Conference on “MANAGEMENT NEXT: Paradigms and Innovations”
GJIMT organized 4th International Conference on “MANAGEMENT NEXT: Paradigms and Innovations” from 19 February to 20 February 2010. Mr. Satish bagrodia, Winsome Group was the keynote speaker and Dr. Alok Chakrabarti, Dean, LM Thapar School Of Management Thapar University, Patiala, presided over the Valedictory Function. Technical sessions were chaired by Dr. Dheeraj Sharma, Canada, Dr. Vimal K. Aggarwal, Dr. Meenakshi, UBS, Chandigarh, Mr. Rahul, Manager marketing, Economic Times,Dr. P.K. Vasudeva, Rajiv Gandhi Foundation, Mr. Rajiv, CoBol Solutions, Mr. H.S. Sidhu, CEO, Delhi Stock Exchange, Dr. Gagan Deep Sharma, Head and Co-ordinator,Baba Banda Bahadur University. More than 100 papers were submitted by the researchers from India, Canada, USA and other countries of the world.
5th National Conference on "Indian Capital Market: Retrospect and Prospects"
5th National Conference on Indian Capital Market: Retrospect and Prospects was organized on 19 September 2009. Mr J.S Bedi , Chairman Gian Jyoti Institute of Mangement and Technology welcomed the chief guest Mr Anup Bagchi , Executive Director ICICI Securities Ltd. and Head, ICICIdirect.com. In his key note address at the conference, Mr. Anup Bagchi explained that the conference would dilate upon background of Indian capital market both with retrospect and prospect. Mr. Anup Bagchi futher stated, “Market front runs economy. Accordingly when economy improves market peaks first and when economy gets slow down market collapses first. The investors should buy in dips and invest in a systematic manner by adopting systematic investment plan.” Nineteen papers were presented. Gian Jyoti Institute of Management & Technology (GJ-IMT), Mohali organized 3rd International Conference on “Fostering Entrepreneurship in Global Context” in the Institute (GJ-IMT), Mohali.
The Valedictory Function of International Conference was held on 21th March, 2009 at 2.30 P.M. Maj.Gen. More than 102 Papers were received for this Conference.

4th National Conference on Managing Innovations in Business Enterprises
Gian Jyoti Institute of Management and Technology (GJ-IMT), Mohali has organized 4th National Conference: Managing Innovations in Business Enterprises on November 22, 2008 in the Institute (GJ-IMT), Mohali.
According to Mr. J.S. Bedi, Chairman, (GJ-IMT), “The Conference would be an exciting study of Innovations in business enterprises. In the present day context there is a need to discuss and develop a new business paradigm, which is centered on global collaboration and requires the highest degree of integration and innovation. Seen in conjunction with the fact that the current business ecosystem is knowledge oriented, we are organizing the present conference to deliberate on the issue of innovations in business enterprises.”

Padam Shri Chandra Mohan stated that creativity is primary for innovation. Innovation starts with observation based on five senses. The primary motive in innovation is to ameliorate by making things or projects more efficient, cheaper, faster and aesthetically pleasing. He said that the three dimensional view of life is appropriate in assessing and innovating. The keynote address was delivered by Mr. Anil Kumar, Executive Director, Shreyans Industries Ltd., Ludhiana who is also president of Ludhiana Management Association (LMA). The valedictory session was addressed by Mr. Raj Kumar Kapoor, Sr. Consultant, Power, Energy and Infrastructure, New Delhi.
Various aspects of business to which creativity can be applied to develop innovations namely Products (Incremental and radical developments), Services, Processes, Employee motivation, Business models, Organizational structures and Redefining the nature of the enterprise would be discussed in the conference.

2nd International Conference on "SME's in Transitional Economies:Challenges & Opportunities"
A two day International Conference deliberating upon critical issues faced by Small and Medium Enterprises was organized at GJIMT on March 27-28, 2008. Titled, “SMEs in Transitional Economies: Challenges & Opportunities”, was second such international conference organised at GJ-IMT and focused on the socio economic and managerial issues faced by small and medium enterprises in the developing and underdeveloped countries of the world. The conference saw enthusiastic participation with more than 100 management practitioners, research professionals and the academia from countries like The Netherlands, England, Ethiopia, Sri Lanka, Pakistan and distinguished organizations from India deliberating on the issue.
The inaugural ceremony was presided over by Mr. T L Easwar, Vice President, A.P.I manufacturing, Ranbaxy and President, Mohali Industries Association. He was accompanied by Mr. J.K. Menon, Managing Director, DCM Engineering Ltd. and Padma Shree Sh. Chandra Mohan, Member, Board of Governors, Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Easwar underlined the importance of contributions by small and medium enterprises in the national economies of the emerging economies. Terming them as drivers of economic growth, Mr. Easwar lauded the initiative taken by GJ-IMT and expressed his happiness at the overwhelming response from participants. Addressing the gathering, Mr. J. K. Menon spoke about the importance of industry – academia partnership as a driver of change in the industry. He said that in this era of globalisation, the business environment had become very competitive and required SMEs to take swift, decisive and radical steps to survive and thrive. Mr. Menon spoke about the importance of academic research and it’s utility to solve complex business problems.
The valedictory session of the conference was presided over by Dr. J. Sadakkadulla, Regional Director, Reserve Bank of India, Chandigarh. Welcoming the dignitaries, Dr. Vimal Kumar Aggarwal expressed his delight at the overwhelming response the conference had received. He informed that the quality of papers presented was so high that GJ-IMT had decided to print them as a compilation of full length papers. Giving the valedictory address, Dr. Sadakkadulla pointed out the importance of SMEs in the overall business environment of transitional economies like India. Dr. Sadakkadulla complimented GJ-IMT for their consistent efforts to create such forums where the industry and academia could interact.

3rd National Conference on Managing Change for Organisational Excellence
GJIMT, Mohali organized one day National Conference on “Managing Change for Organizational Excellence.” In this conference, more than 80 participants from various parts of the country participated and shared their views by contributing research papers on “Managing Change for achieving Organizational Excellence”.
Dr. W. Selvamurthy, distinguished Scientist and Chief Controller, (R&D), DRDO was the Chief Guest in the Inaugural Session. Speaking on this occasion Dr. W.Selvamurthy, highlighted the importance of change management in the contemporary business environment to achieve organizational excellence.
Three Technical Sessions were held in this National Conference followed by Valedictory Session. In the Technical Session, I, Dr. Meenakshi Malhotra, Prof. University Business School, Punjab University, Chandigarh chaired the Session and Dr. A.S. Chawla, presided over the session. In Technical Session 2nd and 3rd Shri Parkash Sharan, Executive Director, HMT Ltd., Pinjore, Dr. Dalip Singh, Prof. Maharishi Dayanand University, Rohtak. Dr. Harish Jain, Professor, Emeritus, Degroote School of Business, Mc. Master University, Canada and Dr. Prem Kumar, Director, Aurobindo Business School, Ludhiana were the resource persons. 20 Papers on different themes of change Management were presented in these sessions covering various area like, total quality management, HRM Leadership and organizational culture.
Dr. S.K.Salwan, Vice Chancellor, Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar was the Chief Guest in the Valedictory Session. The conference concluded with the valedicitory address by Dr. S.K.Salwan. Dr. Salwan a renowned Technology Leader and academician with vast research and teaching experience shared his views on the critical change in management for achieving excellence in business and industry.

Two-Day International Conference On Research In Management And Technology
Branding strategy, problem solving skills and innovation were discussed at a two-day International Conference on research in management and technology was organised by Gian Jyoti Institute of Management and Technology, on 2nd and 23rd March, 2007.
Conference was inaugurated by Senior Associate Editor of The Tribune A J Phillip, experts from countries including Pakistan, Malaysia, Oman and India were present.
The first session was chaired by Pro Vice-Chancellor of Indira Gandhi National Open University, Delhi, Dr M.M. Pant. A paper on ‘Compulsive Buying Behaviour’ was presented by Tariq Jalees, Assistant Professor from Karachi Institute of Science and Technology, Pakistan, followed by papers on Total Quality Management by Dr Deepak Gupta, Head of Department, Management Studies, from BS Anangpuria Institute of Technology and Management, Faridabad. The second session was chaired by director of University Institute of Engineering and Technology, Punjab University, Dr B S Sohi, along with the deputy director of CSIO, H K Sardana. In the third session, chaired by Dr Imran Saleem from Jamia Hamdard University, Delhi papers on personality traits as determinants in managerial problem solving skill, innovation, branding strategy and theory of regulatory failure were presented. Apart from these, three more sessions were held.
“Students must give something back to society and it is the responsibility of the educational institutions to ensure that the students get education which is relevant to society and country at large.” This was stated by H K Dua, editor-in-chief, Tribune group of newspapers, who was addressing a gathering of delegates and students at the conclusion of a two-day international conference. The conference concluded with a valedictory address by Arun Kumar Jain from the Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow. Stressing on the need of a self-analysis, he gave the students a four-point reality check. “Students need to question themselves, if they have globally employable skills, globally relevant skills, locally employable or non-employable skills”.
